Eagle Trio Ranked Top Three, Team Fourth In Latest National Poll

Ashland University wrestling is ranked fourth in the latest poll released by the National Wrestling Coaches Association on Thursday (Jan. 18) afternoon.

The Eagles have bounced around the list of top-ranked teams since the season started, but were No. 11 in the preseason poll issued on Oct. 20.

Seven AU wrestlers remain among those ranked nationally, including Luke Cramer, a senior who has been No. 1 at 197 pounds since the initial poll release. He's 10-0 this season.

Jordan Murphy, a 184-pound senior with a 10-0 record, is the only Eagle to have moved up since the last rankings that came out on Dec. 28. He's now No. 2 at his weight class after beating the previous No. 1 in California Baptist junior Nick Fiegner on Jan. 4 at the NWCA National Duals.

Sophomore Bret Romanzak, the team leader with 25 wins and just three losses, remains No. 3 at 165 pounds.

Senior Bob Mason (9-3 at 141 pounds) and sophomore Christian Price (15-8 at 174) are 11th in their respective classes, sophomore Garrett Hall (9-10 at 157) is 10th, and junior Lawrance Dudgeon (12-8 at 133) is 12th.

The Eagles have 57 points in the poll. That's seven ahead of No. 5 Colorado State-Pueblo, three less than No. 3 Wisconsin-Parkside, 23 behind No. 2 Notre Dame College and 46 back of top-ranked St. Cloud State.

AU is set to wrestle No. 23 Lake Erie in a dual at Kates Gymnasium on Saturday (Jan. 20) at 7 p.m.
