Ashland University's wrestling team revealed its 2017-18 season awards at the program's annual banquet on Sunday (April 8):
Outstanding Freshman – Dustin Marteney
Academic Excellence – Danny Morell
Most Wins – Bret Romanzak
Most Falls – Lawrance Dudgeon
Iron Eagle – Bob Mason
Outstanding Wrestler – Jordan Murphy, Luke Cramer, Bret Romanzak
Captains – Bob Mason, Bret Romanzak, Jordan Murphy, Luke Cramer
The Eagles finished fifth at 2018 NCAA Division II nationals in Cedar Rapids, Iowa, and their back-to-back national placements of fifth this year and sixth in 2017 mark the program's best consecutive finishes since 1982 (fifth) and 1981 (sixth).
Romanzak and Cramer also became the first Ashland grapplers to win national championships in the same season, and the program's sixth and seventh national champs overall.
