The Ashland University wrestling team has brought in a strong 2018-19 class, comprised of 10 freshmen, and three transfers.
Ashland head coach Josh Hutchens said, "With a big graduating class last year and some other returning starters out of the lineup, there will be plenty of opportunities for the new guys to compete. It will be exciting to see how they fit into the team and college competition."
Of the incoming freshmen, Daniel Beemer and Luke Wymer won Ohio state championships last year. Beemer, a three-time placer from Ottawa-Glandorf, will compete at 184 pounds. Wymer, a two-time placer from St. Vincent-St. Mary, will compete at either 133 pounds or 141 pounds.
Additionally, five of the incoming freshmen stood on the podium in high school. Josh Jaeckin, a two-time placer from Olmstead Falls, will be at 149 or 157 pounds. Jesse Mitchell, from South Charleston-Southern, placed fifth in his senior year, and will compete for the Eagles at 174 pounds. Ben Sherrill, from Bellbrook, placed sixth in his senior campaign, and will go at 149 pounds. Alex Leasure, from Alliance, placed seventh in his senior year, and will compete at 285 pounds. Jeff Ware also will look for time at 285 pounds. Ware is from Versailles, and placed seventh in his senior season.
The final three freshmen of the 2018-19 incoming class are 149-pounder Levi Jones from Dana Hills (Calif.), 165-pounder Alec Mason from Dwight D. Eisenhower (Mich.) and 285-pounder Ty Petrey from Austintown Fitch.
The Eagles' 2018-19 incoming class also features three transfers.
Eric Fasnacht, hailing from Padua, is a redshirt sophomore from NCAA Division I Buffalo. Fasnacht was a two-time state placer in high school, and will compete at 157 pounds. Christian Wellman, from Waynedale, is a junior transferring from NCAA Division III Baldwin Wallace. Wellman placed twice at the state tournament in high school, and will be at 125 pounds. Bart Dalious, from Milford, is transferring from Delaware Tech Community College. Dalious was a two-time Delaware state finalist in high school. He will compete at 149 pounds.
