Eagles Set To Host Alumni Wrestling Dual

The Ashland University wrestling team will host its annual Alumni Dual on Saturday (Oct. 13).

The dual will be contested outside at Jack Miller Stadium/Martinelli Field at noon.

"I think most of the guys really enjoy it," said Ashland head coach Josh Hutchens. "Getting out on the football field is unusual, it's not something you get to do doing the year."

The dual also brings together the Eagle alumni with the current Ashland wrestlers.

Headlining the alumni group this year is 2018 Ashland University Hall of Fame inductee, and 2000 national runner-up, Chris Peretti.

"I think the coolest part of him coming back is that he has been in it every year that we have had it," said Hutchens. "To have him (Peretti) be in it on the year he's inducted into the Hall of Fame is awesome. It brings a lot of attention and celebration to the event."

The Alumni Dual also serves as a great way to bring together the past and present generations of Ashland wrestling.

"A lot of the guys really just enjoy coming back and being a part of it and meeting all the new guys. Building that relationship with the current guys on the team," said Hutchens.

However, it's not all about just getting to know each other.

"You have some of the more recent alumni that like to come back and try to beat up on us, so that's fun for them. There's a bit of trash talk going on, but it's all in good fun," said Hutchens.

Alumni who will be in attendance on Saturday include Josh Hunter, Peretti, J.J. Diven, Luke Cramer, Joe Brandt, Zach Brown, and Jacob Southwick.

The first regular-season competition for the Eagles will take place on Nov. 2 at the Kent State Duals.
