The annual Ashland University wrestling Alumni Dual on Saturday (Oct. 13) afternoon was moved from Jack Miller Stadium/Martinelli Field to Kates Gymnasium due to the cold – and the action on the mats heated up as a result.

Ashland's alumni topped the current Eagles, 10-9.

Starting the dual was sophomore 157-pounder Cody Woods against recent alumnus J.J. Diven. The outcome was decided by an early Diven takedown, putting the 2018-19 Eagles down 3-0.

The second match of the day featured sophomore 285-pounder Tristen Weirich and two-time All-American Jacob Southwick. Weirich won 2-1 thanks to a takedown, and thanks to a deduction in the alumni team's score, the current Eagles led, 3-1.

Redshirt freshman Peter Abraham went against 2018 NCAA Division II national champion Luke Cramer at 197 pounds. A first-period takedown and a third-period escape was enough for a 3-0 Cramer victory, and a 4-3 alumni team advantage.

At 184 points, freshman Daniel Beemer took on former Eagle Zach Brown. A Beemer pin put this season's team up, 9-4.

It was up to four-time All-American Joe Brandt to give the alumni team the win, and he delivered. A fall against freshman Jeffrey Ware provided the final margin of victory.

The 2018-19 regular season begins on Nov. 2 at 1 p.m. at the Kent State Duals.
