Eagle Grapplers Continue Open Schedule At Findlay

Ashland University's wrestling team competed at the Findlay Open on Saturday (Nov. 17), as five Eagle grapplers placed in the top eight in their respective weight classes.

Redshirt junior Bret Romanzak finished in second place in the 165-pound class. He plowed through his first four opponents by two major decisions and two decisions. In the semifinal match, Romazak won by major decision over Keegan Driscoll of Wheeling Jesuit (8-0), before losing in the final to Ohio State's Fritz Schierl (6-3).

Freshman Joshua Jaeckin also earned a second-place finish in the 157-pound class. He opened with a win over Ohio State's Micah Marshall by fall at 2:32. In the semifinal, Jaeckin won by decision (5-3) over Edinboro's Peter Pappas.

Redshirt junior Christian Price placed fifth at 174 pounds. He fell in the first round before battling back to win in the fifth-place match. Price won that fifth-place match by rule over Findlay's Nathan Vandermeer.

Sophomore Cameron Jenkins (149) and freshman Daniel Beemer (184) placed eighth in their respective brackets.

The Eagles will wrestle next at Pitt-Johnstown on Dec. 1.
