Eagles Slotted Fifth, Eight AU Grapplers Regionally Ranked

In the first installment of the Division II Super Region Three team and individual rankings, Ashland University's wrestling team is ranked No. 5, and eight grapplers are in the top six.

As a team, Ashland is 5-0 in duals after going 4-0 at the Kent State Duals (Nov. 2), and beating Lourdes 43-6 on Nov. 8.

Two Eagles are slotted first in their respective weight classes. Redshirt junior Bret Romanzak is the top-ranked wrestler at 165 pounds, and redshirt junior Chandler Minnard is at the top at 141 pounds.

Romazak is currently 12-2, his only losses coming to Division I opponent Fritz Schierl of Ohio State University. Minnard is 3-3 this season.

Other grapplers garnering top spots in the region include redshirt freshman Bryce Davis (5-6) at 125 pounds, who is ranked sixth; freshman Luke Wymer (9-3) at 133 pounds, ranked No. 4; sophomore Carson Speelman (8-0) at 149 pounds, ranked fourth; redshirt sophomore Eric Fasnacht (4-4) at 157 pounds, ranked No. 6; redshirt junior Christian Price (13-2) at 174 pounds, ranked fourth; and redshirt sophomore Tristen Weirich (8-5) at 285 pounds, ranked fifth.

Ashland will be back in action on Saturday (Dec. 1), as the Eagles compete at Pitt-Johnstown (3 p.m.).
