Ashland University's wrestling team competed at West Liberty on Saturday (Dec. 8), and the No. 14 Eagles came back with a 36-6 victory.
Redshirt freshman Bryce Davis got Ashland started on the afternoon with a 5-1 win at 125 pounds, then freshman Luke Wymer kept it going with a victory by fall at 133. Redshirt junior Chandler Minnard won 8-3 at 141 pounds, and sophomore Cameron Jenkins took a 10-2 decision at 149 pounds.
The No. 1-ranked 165-pounder in the nation, redshirt junior Bret Romanzak, won by forfeit, and fellow redshirt junior Christian Price didn't drop a point in his match at 174 pounds. Price dominated his opponent, winning 9-0.
Freshman Daniel Beemer earned a close 2-1 decision by fall at 184 pounds. Redshirt sophomore Tristen Weirich won by fall at 285 pounds to wrap up the day of dominance for the Eagles.
Ashland now is 6-1 in duals this season heading into a huge weekend of competition. The Eagles will wrestle next on Saturday (Dec. 15), as they begin the Midwest Classic in Indianapolis, Ind., at 9 a.m.
