No. 18 Eagle Grapplers Keep Rolling On The Road

Ashland University's No. 18-ranked wrestling team earned a 28-12 win at Mount Union on Tuesday (Jan. 8), improving to 7-1 in duals this season.

Ashland went 7-3 against the Raiders in the midweek dual. Earning wins for the Eagles were freshman Luke Wymer, redshirt junior Chandler Minnard, sophomore Carson Speelman, sophomore Cody Woods, redshirt junior Bret Romanzak, freshman Daniel Beemer, and redshirt sophomore Tristen Weirich.

Wymer got Ashland started early, winning at 133 pounds by a major decision (11-0). Minnard kept it up at 141 pounds with a 5-4 decision. Earning a victory at 149 pounds by 15-0 tech fall was Speelman.

Woods took the win at 165 by fall in 5:36. Romanzak, stepping up to 174 for the night, won by way of a 7-2 decision.

The Eagles closed out the dual earning wins at 184 pounds and 285 pounds. Beemer topped his opponent by an 8-2 decision, and Weirich ended the night with a 9-1 major decision.

Ashland will grapple at home in its next dual, the first time the Eagles will be at home since Nov. 8. The Eagles will clash with No. 3 Notre Dame College at 1 p.m. on Saturday (Jan. 12) in Kates Gymnasium.
