Seven Grapplers Ranked Regionally, Eagles Slotted Sixth

Ashland University's wrestling team has seven grapplers ranked in the top six in the most recent NCAA Division II Super Region Three rankings, announced on Friday (Jan. 31).

Redshirt freshman Bryce Davis, freshman Luke Wymer, redshirt junior Chandler Minnard, sophomore Carson Speelman, redshirt junior Bret Romanzak, redshirt junior Christian Price, and redshirt sophomore Tristen Weirich all are regionally ranked.

Romanzak (25-5) is the highest-ranked Ashland wrestler, coming in at second at 165 pounds in Super Region Three. Minnard (12-5) was slotted third at 141 pounds, and Weirich (21-7) is the fourth-ranked wrestler in the region at 285 pounds.

Ashland had two grapplers come in at fifth in the region – Wymer (18-7) at 133 pounds, and Speelman (13-5) at 149 pounds. The Eagles also had two grapplers in the sixth slot – Davis (9-10) at 125 pounds, and Price (21-6) at 174 pounds.

Ashland was slotted sixth in the team rankings, coming off of two straight home dual victories over Urbana (45-0) and Findlay (25-16).

The Eagles will wrestle in their last dual of the year on Friday (Feb. 8) at Lake Erie College at 7 p.m.
