Eagles Open Season 1-2 At Kent State Duals

Ashland University's No. 9-ranked wrestling team opened its season on Saturday (Nov. 2) at the Kent State Duals, and went 1-2.

The Eagles picked up their only win against Mercyhurst Northeast, 25-18.

Redshirt junior Christian Wellman got Ashland out to a 4-0 lead with his win at 125. Redshirt senior Lawrance Dudgeon pinned his opponent to win at 133 and earn six team points. Redshirt freshman Joshua Jaeckin scored twice in the first period and once in the third to win his 149 matchup, 9-6. At 174, redshirt senior Bret Romanzak got six points by pinning his opponent in the second period. Junior Aidan Pasiuk also won by pin in the first period at 184.

Ashland lost its dual with the host school, Kent State, 37-6. Wellman won his matchup at 125, 3-0, the only points Ashland was able to score outside of a victory by forfeit at 141.

The Eagles lost to Edinboro, 36-3.

Romanzak was the lone Eagle to score for Ashland in his 8-3 win at 174. 

Ashland will be back in action on Thursday (Nov. 7) at Lourdes at 7 p.m.
