Ashland University's wrestling team was ranked No. 7 in the nation by the National Wrestling Coaches Association Poll released on Wednesday (Nov. 27).
The Eagles moved up two spots from their initial preseason ranking.
Six of Ashland's grapplers were ranked nationally. Redshirt senior Chandler Minnard (11-3) came in at No. 4 at 141 pounds. Minard most recently won his weight class at the Baldwin Wallace Invite, and finished fifth at the Findlay open.
Bret Romanzak, another redshirt senior, moved up to No. 5 at 174 pounds. Romanzak (15-2) won his class at the Findlay Open and Baldwin Wallace Invite.
Junior Aidan Pasiuk (7-2) was named the No. 6 grappler at 184 pounds. He finished first in his class at the Baldwin Wallace Invite and fourth at Ohio Intercollegiates.
Tristen Weirich, a junior, is the No. 8 heavyweight. Weirich (11-4) has been winning a lot lately, finishing first at the Baldwin Wallace Invite, second at Ohio Intercollegiates, and third at the Findlay Open.
Redshirt senior Christian Price was slotted No. 10 by the NWCA at 165 pounds. He's 4-4 on the year. Junior Carson Speelman was also picked No. 10 in his class, 149 pounds. Speelman (13-3) won at Baldwin Wallace and finished second in back-to-back weeks at the Ohio Intercollegiates and the Findlay Open.
The Eagles' next matchup will be a Top 10 showdown in Kates Gymnasium against No. 4 Pitt-Johnstown on Saturday (Dec. 7) at 3 p.m.
