Findlay Blanks AU Women's Soccer, 3-0
ASHLAND, Ohio – The Ashland women's soccer team could not bounce back from a 1-0 halftime deficit and fell at Findlay, 3-0, on Sunday (Sept. 12) afternoon.
Sarah Silone scored the opening goal for the Oilers (3-0-1, 3-0-0 GLIAC) in the 39th minute beating Ashland freshman keeper Karly Beuck (Lodi, Ohio/Cloverleaf) from 10 yards out.
The Oilers took that lead to halftime, but the Eagles could not find the equalizer. Silone struck again in the 55th minute, scoring off a deflection to give Findlay at 2-0 lead.
Findlay's Brianna Milne connected on a direct free kick into the right upper-90 from 20 yards for the final margin.
The Oilers out-shot the Eagles, 14-8, in the match, including an 8-3 mark in the first half.
Ashland forward Ashley Dragos (Falmouth, Maine/West Virginia Wesleyan) took three shots – all on goal – but UF goalkeeper Alicia Tutino came up with four saves in her 74+ minutes of work.
Beuck made three saves for AU, while freshman backup Rebecca Plescia (Parma, Ohio/Padua) made one stop in the last 19 minutes.
The Eagles remain on the road for four more games, the next of which coming on Friday (Sept. 17) at GLIAC foe Ohio Dominican. It will be the first time the teams have met as members of the GLIAC. Kickoff is set for 5 p.m.
