Women's Soccer Falls to Tiffin, 2-1
Here's the good news - the AU women's soccer team scored on 25 percent of its shots Friday (Oct. 29) against Tiffin. Now the sobering news - the Eagles had only four shots.
The Eagles (4-10-2/2-9-2 GLIAC) lost the GLIAC contest, 2-1 in double overtime. The Dragons (10-4-2/8-3-2) scored the game winner at 104:40 when Shelly Rogers recovered a blocked shot, worked her way through the AU defense and into the box and fired a shot past keeper Rebecca Plescia (Parma, Ohio/Padua Franciscan) from eight yards out.
It's hard to be too critical of Plescia. She made 17 saves in this contest, one shy of the school record set by Krista Herbst against Grand Valley State in 2009. Plescia didn't get much time to relax, the Dragons led in shots, 35-4. In the second half the visitors had a 19-2 edge in attempts.
Tiffin broke on top, 1-0 on an unassisted goal by Lauren Turkington in the 25th minute. The Eagles knotted the score at 30:44 when junior Savannah Garside (Grove City, Ohio) scored her second goal of the season. The assist on the play went to Melissa Hill (Medina, Ohio).
Friday's victory gives the Dragons a sweep of the season series. On Sept. 10, the Eagles lost at Tiffin, 4-2.
The Eagles end the season on Sunday (Oct. 31, noon) when they host Tiffin.
