The Ashland University women's soccer team scored a first half goal and hunkered down in the second half to preserve a 1-0 win at Ferris State on Sunday in non conference action in Big Rapids, Mich.
The Bulldogs (3-4) out-shot the Eagles (2-2-1), 6-1, in the first 20 minutes before Emily Ledbetter slotted a cross for Morgan Bittengle, who scored for the second time this season to give Ashland a 1-0 lead.
Ferris State applied pressure for the remainder of the half, but the Eagles were stingy on the back line.
In the second half, Ferris out-shot the Eagles by an 11-5 count, but Abby Lampe made 11 saves in the game to keep the clean sheet and help Ashland to its second win in 2017.
The Bulldogs held a 24-10 lead in shots and the teams were even on corners, 5-5. Bittengle led Ashland with four shots.
The Eagles return to the pitch on Friday (Sept. 22) at Charleston.
