The Ashland University women's soccer team climbed four spots in the latest United Soccer Coaches poll to No. 18 in the latest release of the rankings issued on Tuesday (Sept. 25) afternoon.
Ashland made its debut in the poll on Sept. 18 at the No. 22 position and went 2-0 last week against Parkside and Purdue Northwest to improve to 7-0-2 on the season. It is the Eagles' longest unbeaten streak to start a season since 2015 when they started 9-0.
Their No. 18 ranking is the Eagles' highest since they were No. 13 in the country on Sept. 13, 2005.
Ashland has recorded four straight clean sheets and has not allowed a goal in 399 minutes. The last time Ashland had four straight shutouts was 2004. The Eagles rank 12th in the nation with a 0.32 goals against average.
The Eagles have also had the last three GLIAC Defensive Players of the Week with sophomore keeper Hannah Lee winning the award Sept. 10 and Sept. 17 and redshirt-junior center back Sydney Wright taking the honor on Monday (Sept. 24).
Offensively, AU ranks third in the GLIAC with 23 goals scored, led by redshirt-junior Deijah Swihart, who has six on the season. Eleven different players have scored for the Eagles this season.
After playing seven of their first nine games at home, the Eagles will hit the road for their next five games. That stretch starts on Friday (Sept. 28) night at 4 p.m. at No. 14 Ferris State.
