The Ashland University women's soccer team got off on the front foot against Michigan Tech, but was never able to get a goal as the Huskies took control in the second half and commanded a 2-0 win at Ferguson Field Sunday (Oct. 21) afternoon.
The loss snapped an 11-game home unbeaten streak for the Eagles (9-3-4, 4-2-2 GLIAC), who slipped to fourth in the jumbled GLIAC standings.
The Eagles took the first five shots of the game, but Amanda Young stopped three of those to keep the hosts off the board.
AU maintained a 5-4 edge in shots in the first half, but Michigan Tech was able to see more of the ball in the second half.
The Huskies (9-5-1, 4-4 GLIAC) got on the board in the 70th minute as Leah Goldman slipped behind the AU defense and scored on a ball over-the-top. Michigan Tech's Jesse Jacobusse made it 2-0 in the 88th minute, getting on the end of another long ball before rolling it over the goal line.
Freshman goalkeeper Ellie Bowers made one save in her first collegiate start in goal. Amanda Young kept a clean sheet for Michigan Tech with five saves.
The Eagles will look to improve their position in the GLIAC and the Midwest Region in Friday's regular season finale as they take on Saginaw Valley at 4 p.m. at Ferguson Field.
