Ashland University sophomore Hannah Lee was named the GLIAC Goalkeeper of the Year, while redshirt-junior center back Sydney Wright earned All-GLIAC first team honors the league office announced on Thursday (Nov. 1), the eve of the GLIAC Tournament semifinals.
Also, freshman midfielder Bella Petrock was picked to the second team and freshman center back Tori Baker was an honorable mention selection.
Lee is the first GLIAC Goalkeeper of the Year in program history. She has a 0.81 goals against average in 13 games this season, which ranks third in the GLIAC.
The Westlake, Ohio native has 49 saves this season with a save percentage of 81.7, ranking second in the league. She has four shutouts and made two other starts in which the Eagles did not allow a goal. Her season-high of eight saves came in a 2-2 tie at nationally-ranked Ferris State on Sept. 28.
Wright was selected to the All-GLIAC first team for the first time in her career after earning second team honors in 2017. She is the anchor of an outstanding back line that ranks second in the GLIAC with a 0.69 goals against average.
Wright has started every game for Ashland, which ranks second in the league with 10 shutouts. The Eagles have allowed just 9.3 shots per game.
The Hilliard, Ohio native has also played a role in attack, serving up three assists and scoring the first goal in a 2-1 win over Tiffin in the home opener.
Petrock, in just her first season of collegiate soccer, excelled in the central midfield role as the pivot point from the back four to the attack. A box-to-box midfielder, Petrock scored three goals and earned a reputation as a long-shot taker as two of her goals came from outside the area. She scored a pair of first-half goals in a 4-0 win over Northern Michigan.
Baker also stepped into her role immediately, forming a duo with Wright as the Eagles' center backs. In attack, she was in the service role and is tied with Wright for second on the team with three assists. She had the assist on the lone goal in Ashland's 1-0 win over Michigan Tech in the GLIAC Tournament quarterfinal on Tuesday.
The Eagles (10-3-5), under first year interim head coach Taylor Clarke, are the No. 5 seed in the GLIAC Tournament and will play top-seeded and No. 1-ranked Grand Valley State on Friday (Nov. 2) at 5 p.m. in the semifinals in Allendale, Mich.
