Oilers Stop Eagles, 1-0, in Weather-Shortened Game

The Ashland University women's soccer team suffered its first setback of the season, falling 1-0 in a lightning-delayed and shortened game at Findlay on Friday (Sept. 13) afternoon.

The Eagles (2-1) were not able to come up with an equalizer after the hosts scored an early goal in the 12th minute as Olivia Frank deposited the eventual game-winner in the back of the net.

Ashland had chances to tie the game, especially in the second half when the Eagles out-shot the Oilers by a 10-3 count, but it came to no avail.

The game was stopped twice in the second half due to lightning in the area, forcing minimum 30-minute delays each time. The contest was halted for good in the 88th minute with another outburst of lightning.

Junior keeper Abby Lampe stopped three shots for the Eagles while the combination of Nicole Burke and Anna Money made four saves for the Oilers (2-0), who remained unbeaten.

Senior Deijah Swihart led the Eagles with three shots in attack.

Ashland will play for the third time this week on Sunday (Sept. 15) when it travels to Ohio Dominican for a 3 p.m. kickoff in Columbus.
