The Ashland University women's soccer team scored a goal with less than five minutes remaining and went on for the 2-1 win at Northwood on Friday (Sept. 27) afternoon in Midland, Mich.
The game was a nonconference contest as they will play later this season in GLIAC play.
The Eagles (4-1-1), playing for the first time in more than a week, won a throw-in deep in their own defensive third. Ashland's defense cleared the ball out and it was headed down to sophomore Brianna Fourman, who passed to junior Nadya Boualany at midfield.
With a numbers advantage on the counter, Boualany carried the ball near the top of the box and squared a ball left for Fourman, who continued her run, took a touch and beat the keeper from 10 yards out.
It was Fourman's second goal of the season and the third assist of the year for Boualany.
The Eagles had to come back from a 1-0 deficit after Juliana Paoletti converted from the spot in the 39th minute after an AU handball in the box.
Ashland equalized just four minutes later as senior Korinna Lakes made a run into the box with the ball and was pushed from behind for a penalty shout.
Sophomore Faith Lewis stepped up to the spot and slotted it away to knot the game just before halftime.
The Eagles maintained a 12-10 lead in shots for the game, including a 7-4 mark in the second half. Northwood (4-2) pressed late until the Eagles' clearance led to the game-winning goal.
Junior Hannah Lee made three saves to earn the win in goal.
The Eagles will look to sweep the weekend on Sunday (Sept. 29) at noon at No. 11 Ferris State.
