The Ashland University women's soccer team made its debut in the United Soccer Coaches national poll, ranked No. 25 in the country the organization announced on Tuesday (Oct. 8) afternoon.
The Eagles (7-1-1, 2-0 GLIAC) are in the poll for the first time since Sept. 25, 2018 when they were up to No. 18 nationally.
Ashland is currently riding a four-game winning streak – all of which came on the road – and a six-game unbeaten streak that dates to a 4-3 win at Ohio Dominican on Sept. 15.
AU had 2-0 wins at Purdue Northwest and Parkside last week. Those followed a 3-1 win over then-No. 11 Ferris State in Big Rapids, Mich.
Junior goalkeeper Hannah Lee is the two-time reigning GLIAC Defensive Player of the Week as the Eagles have allowed just two goals in their last four games. Only once this season have they conceded more than one goal in any game.
Meanwhile, Ashland has averaged 2.11 goals per game and has six players with at least two goals on the season. Senior Deijah Swihart and sophomore Faith Lewis have four goals each to lead the attack while junior Nadya Boualany has already distributed five assists.
The Eagles are third among Midwest Region teams in the poll with Grand Valley State sitting at No. 3 and McKendree at No. 17. Rockhurst is listed among others receiving votes.
The Eagles will play host to Northwood on Friday (Oct. 11) at 7 p.m. at Ferguson Field. Ashland beat the Timberwolves, 2-1, on Sept. 27 in a nonconference contest in Midland, Mich.
