The Ashland University women's soccer team is ranked No. 12 in this week's edition of the United Soccer Coaches national poll released on Tuesday (Nov. 5) afternoon.
The Eagles (13-2-1, 7-1 GLIAC) fell one spot from last week's position after dropping a 2-0 contest against No. 2 Grand Valley State on Friday before rebounding with a 2-1 overtime win over Davenport.
This is the fifth straight week the Eagles have been in the poll, debuting at No. 25 on Oct. 8, then going to Nos. 18, 14 and 11 in the following weeks.
Ashland has just one regular season game remaining on Friday at Saginaw Valley. A win or draw in that game will secure the No. 2 seed in the GLIAC Tournament, which will start at Ferguson Field with the quarterfinal on Sunday (Nov. 10) at 1 p.m.
The Eagles gave up one goal in each half against Grand Valley on Friday, then got two goals from redshirt-senior Deijah Swihart to come back from a 1-0 second-half deficit to beat Davenport on Sunday afternoon, 2-1, in overtime.
The Eagles, in their second season under head coach Taylor Clarke, are looking for their second straight NCAA Tournament appearance.
Ashland and Saginaw Valley are scheduled to kick off their regular season finale on Friday at 1 p.m. in University Center, Mich. The Eagles beat Saginaw Valley, 2-1, in non-league action on Oct. 19 with goals coming from sophomore Bella Petrock and the game-winner in the 69th minute from senior Emily Ledbetter.
