Ashland Stays At No. 3 In Midwest Region Rankings

For the third straight week, the Ashland University women's soccer team was ranked No. 3 in the NCAA Division II Midwest Region rankings released on Wednesday (Nov. 13) afternoon.

The Eagles (14-3-1) have remained stationary in the rankings since the initial release on Oct. 30.

The top eight teams in the region will receive bids to the NCAA Tournament with automatic qualification going to the tournament champions of the GLIAC, Great Lakes Valley and Great Midwest Athletic Conferences. The top two teams will earn the right to host the first and second rounds.

The full NCAA Tournament field will be announced on Monday (Nov. 18).

The Eagles are coming off a 4-2 defeat at Saginaw Valley on Friday (Nov. 8) and a 1-0 win over Davenport in the GLIAC Tournament quarterfinal on Sunday (Nov. 10).

One more win this season will give the Eagles their highest win total since they set the program record with 19 in 2004.

Ashland is looking to qualify for its second straight NCAA Tournament after breaking a 14-year drought last year. The Eagles are in their second season under head coach Taylor Clarke.

AU will play Saginaw Valley on Friday (Nov. 15) at 7:30 p.m. in the GLIAC Tournament semifinals in Allendalle, Mich.

The Eagles beat Saginaw 2-1 on Oct. 19 at Ferguson Field, then closed the regular season with their defeat in Michigan. The winner will play in the tournament final on Sunday (Nov. 17) at 1 p.m. against the winner of the other semifinal between host Grand Valley State and Ferris State.
