Tennis Opens Home Season With 7-2 Win

ASHLAND, Ohio – Home sweet home. The Ashland tennis team played its home opener on Saturday (Sept. 11) morning and came away with a 7-2 win over GLIAC foe Michigan Tech at the AU Tennis Courts.

The Eagles (3-1, 3-1 GLIAC) swept doubles play, including a come-from-behind win at second doubles. The pairing of seniors Corinne Pasley (Livonia, Mich./Adlaie Stevenson) and Alex Ware (Plymouth, Mich/Plymouth Salem) were behind 6-2, but won six straight games to come away with an 8-6 win.

Juniors Torrie Goudy (Lexington, Ohio) and Paige Cooper (Mansfield, Ohio/Lexington) won, 8-2, at first doubles and freshman Kira Kotova (Moscow, Russia) and sophomore Megan Gisclon (Ashland, Ohio) also won, 8-2, at third singles.

Goudy, Cooper, Kotova and Ware earned the wins in the singles matches to seal the win for the Eagles, who avenged a 6-3 loss to the Huskies a season ago.

"The girls were definitely prepared," said AU head coach Carl Leedy. "They really came to play."

The Eagles continue their home-opening weekend on Sunday (Sept. 12) morning at 10 a.m. against Lake Superior State.
