Eagles Fall Just Short Again at GVSU, 5-4

ASHLAND, Ohio – For the second straight day, the Ashland tennis team split six singles matches, but could not come up with a decisive win at Grand Valley State on Friday (Oct. 9) afternoon. The Lakers won the match, 5-4, to remain unbeaten at 8-0 (8-0 GLIAC).

Junior Torrie Goudy (Lexington, Ohio), sophomore Erika Sullivan (Broadview Hts., Ohio/Brecksville-Broadview Hts.) and freshman Kira Kotova (Moscow, Russia) all won their singles match for the Eagles (8-4, 7-4 GLIAC).

Junior Paige Cooper (Mansfield, Ohio/Lexington) dropped a three-set match at third singles to Darylann Trout, 6-3, 6-7 (4-7), 7-6 (7-5).

Seniors Corinne Pasley (Livonia, Mich./Adlaie Stevenson) and Alex Ware (Plymouth, Mich./Salem) won their match at second doubles, 9-8 (7-4), over Katelyn Schaffer and Alyssa Lucas.

The match finished the Eagles' dual match fall regular season. Next they will play at the ITA Nationals, beginning Wednesday (Oct. 13) through Sunday (Oct. 17). The GLIAC Championships will be played from Oct. 22-24 in Midland, Mich.
