Netters Improve to 6-0 in Spring Season with Win over NKU

ASHLAND, Ohio – Trailing 2-1 heading into singles play, the AU tennis team rallied for five wins in six singles spots to finish its sixth straight win this spring against Northern Kentucky, 6-3, on Wednesday (March 9).

Juniors Paige Cooper (Mansfield, Ohio/Lexington) and Torrie Goudy (Lexington, Ohio) were winners at first doubles, 8-3.

Goudy won at first singles, 6-1, 6-1, over Claire Spradlin. Cooper also was 2-0 on the day with a win at third singles over Kristen Sunday, 6-1, 6-4.

Sophomore Erika Sullivan (Broadview Heights, Ohio/Brecksville-Broadview Heights) claimed a 6-2, 6-0 win over Marta Romeo at second doubles.

Freshman Kira Kotova (Moscow, Russia) improved to 19-1 this season with a 6-4, 6-0 triumph over Jillian Sturgeon at fifth singles. Senior Alex Ware (Plymouth, Mich./Salem) did not drop a game in a 6-0, 6-0 sweep of Holly Robinson at sixth singles.

The Eagles are now 4-0 on their spring trip and have won eight straight matches overall, dating to the GLIAC Tournament in October when the Eagles placed fifth in the conference.

AU has just one match remaining on the Hilton Head trip. That will be played at 8 a.m. Thursday (March 10) against Indiana (Pa.).
