AU Tennis Sweeps Weekend Against Malone, Walsh

ASHLAND, Ohio – The Ashland University tennis team completed its dominance of the spring schedule last weekend, sweeping 9-0 wins at Malone on Saturday (April 9) and against Walsh on Sunday (April 10) at the AU Tennis Courts.

Ashland is now ranked fifth in the NCAA Midwest region and await the bids for the NCAA Tournament.

The Eagles lost just one set for the weekend and sophomore Erika Sullivan (Broadview Heights, Ohio/Brecksville-Broadview Heights) did not lose a game, playing at second singles. She has won eight straight matches and is 12-7 for the season.

Sullivan paired with freshman Kira Kotova (Moscow, Russia) at third doubles and they won 8-0 at Malone and 8-2 against Walsh.

Kotova improved to 24-1 this season with two straight-set wins, in which she lost just three games. She has won 16 straight matches.

Junior Paige Cooper (Mansfield, Ohio/Lexington) won both her matches on the weekend (6-0, 6-0 and 6-1, 7-5) as did junior Torrie Goudy (Lexington, Ohio), who won 6-1, 6-2 and 6-2, 6-4.

The pair won at first doubles, 8-1 and 8-0 to improve to 17-8 on the season.

Senior Alex Ware (Plymouth, Mich./Salem) swept her two matches, 6-1, 6-0 and 6-0, 6-4. She has won six straight matches and is now 18-5.

Senior Corinne Pasley (Livonia, Mich./Adlaie Stevenson) and sophomore Megan Gisclon (Ashland, Ohio) played once each over the weekend, winning both.

Pasley paired with Ware at second doubles in both matches, winning 8-3 and 8-6.
