Tennis Team Edges Lake Superior State, 5-4

The Ashland University tennis team earned its fourth win of the season on Saturday (Sept. 30), but it took everything the Eagles had to hold off the host school, Lake Superior State.

Ashland is 4-1 on the young season. Saturday's setback was the first for the Lakers. The Eagles are 5-1, 2-1 in GLIAC play.  All of Ashland's matches have come in conference play.

The Eagles won four of six singles matches and one of three doubles matches.  The singles wins went to senior Victoria Goudy (Lexington, Ohio), junior Erika Sullivan (Broadview Heights, Ohio/Brecksville-Broadview Heights), senior Paige Cooper (Mansfield, Ohio/Lexington) and freshman Sally Trout (Laura, Ohio/Milton-Union).

At No. 5 singles, AU's Kira Kotova (Moscow, Russia/#1535) lost for the first time this season and for the second time in her career. The sophomore owns a career record of 28-2.

The Eagles will play at Michigan Tech on Sunday (Sept. 11).
