Eagles Finish Fourth at GLIAC Tournament, Await NCAA Bid

ASHLAND, Ohio -- The Eagles played three tight doubles matches against second-seeded Wayne State, but the Warriors took all three on their way to a 6-0 win in the third place match of the GLIAC Tournament on Sunday (Oct. 23) morning in Midland, Mich.

With their fourth place finish the conference, the Eagles still have hopes of advancing to the NCAA Tournament for the third time in four seasons.

The pairings of Victoria Goudy (Lexington, Ohio) and Paige Cooper (Mansfield, Ohio/Lexington) and junior Erika Sullivan (Broadview Heights, Ohio/Brecksville-Broadview Heights) and freshman Zdenka Pozo (Cochahamba, Bolivia) each played WSU to 8-6 scores at first and second doubles, respectively.

At third doubles, sophomore Kira Kotova (Moscow, Russia) and freshman Sally Trout (Laura, Ohio/Milton-Union) played a couple extra games, but could not hold off the duo of Tanya Joseph and Haleigh McPeek, falling 9-7.

The losses left the Eagles with a difficult task in the singles play and none of the Eagles could come up with a win.

The tournament ended the Eagles' fall season and they will wait to see if they earned a bid for the NCAA Tournament, which will be played in the spring.
