Women's Tennis Drops Weekend Matches

Ashland University women's tennis team had a rain-shortened match on Friday (Oct. 2) against Northwood. The Eagles fell 5-0 in a match in which only two of the six singles matches were able to be completed.

 Northwood's Olesia Riabchuk defeated AU senior Andrea Ruiz, 6-2, 6-0 in second singles action. In fourth singles play, Eagle senior Daniela Alves fell short to the Timberwolves' Anna Aniskina, 6-2, 6-1.

On Saturday (Oct. 3), the Eagles fell 9-0 at home to the Saginaw Valley State Cardinals.

Alves battled but fell just short to Erin Doud in fourth singles, 6-1, 7-6 (10-4). Senior Kendal Stephens dropped fifth singles, 6-1, 6-0, to SVSU's Abigail Shonk.

The Eagles' two setbacks put them at 2-6 overall (2-6 GLIAC) on the season.

Ashland will return home on Saturday (Oct. 10) against Ferris State. The match will begin at 10 a.m.
