What a career it was.
Ashland University head tennis coach Carl Leedy capped off his illustrious career with a 7-2 victory over the Grace College Lancers on Tuesday (April 5).
Leedy amassed 824 wins in his 50 years in the tennis business. He won 655 matches as the captain of the Ashland High School Arrows, and the other 169 victories came at the helm of the Eagles.
On Tuesday, the battle between the Eagles and Lancers also produced another smaller rivalry, one between two sisters. AU junior Meghann Fitzpatrick saw her sister Molly on the opposite side of the net as a Lancer. Although the two did not face off head-to-head, Meghann claimed bragging rights with a team victory.
Meghann Fitzpatrick played her part in the team win, collecting the No. 2 singles victory over the Lancers' Jenna Jackson, 6-1, 6-2. She also was a part of the No. 1 doubles victory, 8-5, alongside senior Martina Baca.
Senior Zdenka Pozo defeated Gabrielle Lawrence, 6-1, 6-0, in No. 3 singles action.
Freshman Natalie Keron took care of No. 4 singles, 6-2, 6-4, over Molly Fitzpatrick.
Sophomore Elizabeth Kidd also came away victorious, 2-6, 6-2, (10-2), over Jayna Huber.
The Eagles end their season 6-15 overall and 2-9 in the Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference.
