Eagle Women Victorious In Season Opener

The Ashland University women's tennis team's 5-4 win over Walsh on Saturday (Sept. 9) was the definition of a nail-biter.

In a 4-4 tie, the match that lasted four-plus hours came down to the third set of a singles faceoff that was ultimately won, 7-5, by Eagle freshman Camille Ringot.

"It was really fun as well as stressful because it was my first college match," Ringot said. "I cried at the end because I was so happy."

It was the first time since 2012 that AU beat Walsh and the first time since 2013 that the Eagles won their season-opening match.

"It does not get any better than that," head coach Lexi Bolesky said. "It's a great feeling to be 1-0. It gives us momentum, and it's inspiring."

Freshman Anna Hart and junior Natalie Keron were the lone Ashland duo to win with an 8-3 effort in the third doubles spot. The two of them also won their singles matches as Hart won 7-6, 6-3 in the fourth slot and Keron won 6-4, 6-1 in the sixth slot.

The other AU individual victory came from sophomore Allison Brooks. She won 6-2, 6-0 as Ashland's No. 5 player.

Michigan Tech is the next opponent for the Eagles. The Huskies will travel to Ashland on Sept. 15 at 2 p.m.
