The Ashland University women's tennis team improved to 2-1 and 1-1 in the Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference, receiving contribution from every player in the lineup in a 5-4 win over Lake Superior State on Saturday (Sept. 16) at home.

"We played stronger in doubles," AU head coach Lexi Bolesky said. "And we were mentally tough in singles."

Two pairs of Eagle freshmen earned victories in the doubles portion of the day. Sofie Garpered and Hazuki Ogino teamed up to win, 8-5, in the No. 1 slot, and Anna Hart and Camille Ringot won, 9-7, in the third position.

The sophomores stepped up in singles as Brianna Brdicka won 6-1, 6-1 at No. 2, and Allison Brooks earned a 6-0, 6-3 win at No. 6. Brooks is now 3-0 in singles matches this season.

Saturday's match against the Lakers (1-3, 0-2) was tied 4-4, as Hart's singles bout stretched to a third set. She ultimately reigned victorious in the five spot with a 6-7, 6-3, 6-3 effort.

"Today was another epic battle and finish for a full team effort," Bolesky said. "We are very proud of our effort and attitude and look forward to getting back to work Monday."

AU has its fourth consecutive home match on Sept. 23 vs. Capital.
