Ashland University women's tennis lost its third and final match at the Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference Championships on Sunday (Oct. 29), ultimately taking home eight place at the tournament.

For the second straight day, freshman Sofie Garpered and junior Natalie Keron played the closest doubles match for the Eagles. They lost, 8-5, to a pair of Ferris State seniors.

AU wraps up its fall schedule having shown significant improvement this season in comparison to the past three.

The Eagles, who qualified for the conference tournament for the first time since 2013, finished the fall with a 5-10 overall record and a 3-7 GLIAC record in 2017. From 2014-16, Ashland won just two fall matches, both against GLIAC opponents.

One senior, two juniors, two sophomores and four freshmen made up AU's young roster. Among them was 2016 All-GLIAC honorable mention sophomore Brianna Brdicka and 2017 All-GLIAC honorable mention sophomore Allison Brooks.

Second-year head coach Lexi Bolesky gave the roster a new look this season, as the four freshmen are all from a different country, and none of them are from Ohio. In 2016, only one of 10 Eagles was from outside of the state.

Ashland will get back on the court for their Spring Break trip, which extends from March 3-10.
