AU Wins Two Matches On Final Day In South Carolina

Ashland University women's tennis won two matches in the same day for the first time since 2014 on Thursday (March 8).

The Eagles topped Albion, 9-0, and Albany, 8-1, to complete its Spring Break trip in Hilton Head, S.C.

During the singles portion of the match against the Britons, no Eagle was forced to a third set. And throughout the day, none of the AU pairings lost a doubles match.

Junior Natalie Keron and freshman Hazuki Ogino remained undefeated in singles matches this spring, improving to 4-0.

"We came out and played strong this week," Keron said. "Our doubles and singles were very consistent."

Freshman Anna Hart surrendered just two points to her opponents in the two matches she played at No. 2, winning, 6-1, 6-0, and, 6-0, 6-1.

Hart's doubles partner, freshman Camille Ringot, picked up two wins in the No. 1 singles spot.

Ashland's lone senior, Elizabeth Kidd, also went undefeated on the day, winning all of her matches at No. 3 doubles and No. 5 singles.

Junior Chelsea Myers teamed up with Ogino for two doubles wins. Myers also won a match, 6-1, 6-4, against an Albion senior.

"We went into our final match wanting to represent Ashland well," Myers said. "It's been great playing in Hilton Head, and we hope to carry this momentum into the rest of the spring season."

The Eagles return to Ohio for a match against Oberlin on Wednesday (March 14) at 6:30 p.m.

Ashland has eight wins throughout 2017-18 with seven matches remaining. The Eagles haven't had more than eight wins in a season since they won 13 in 2013-14.
