Women’s Tennis Begins Season at Oberlin Invitational

Ashland University's women's tennis team went 3-2 in doubles and 5-5 in singles in Friday's (Sept. 7) Oberlin College Invitational.

Freshman Gabriella Hudec and sophomore Anna Hart won in decisive 8-2 fashion in their doubles contest. Junior Allison Brooks and sophomore Hazuki Ogino also didn't leave any doubt in their 8-3 victory. Senior Natalie Keron and freshman Lydia Bice rounded out the doubles wins for the Eagles, earning an 8-2 win.

Following doubles play, there were five Eagles who notched singles wins.

Keron went the distance in her three-set match, as she won 6-3, 6-7, 11-9. Freshman Nikhol Pluta picked up a win in straight sets, 6-2, 6-2, while Bice won a three-set battle, 6-7, 7-6, 10-5. Brooks dropped her first set before earning a victory, 3-6, 6-2, 10-7, and Hudec took care of business in her match, winning 8-6, and picking up the fifth and final singles victory for Ashland on the day.

The Eagles will play at the Deborah Liebert Karl Tennis Complex on Saturday (Sept. 8) against Fairmont State at 1 p.m.
