Ashland Women Compete at Bowling Green Invitational

Ashland University's women's tennis team competed at the Bowling Green State Invitational on Friday (Sept. 14), and Saturday (Sept. 15).

Allison Brooks, a junior, saw success in the white bracket. Brooks won her first match in straight sets, 6-1, 7-5, to advance to second-round play. Sophomore Hazuki Ogino also advanced to the second round of the white bracket with a 6-2, 6-1 straight sets victory.

In white bracket consolation play, Ogino advanced to the second round with an 8-6 win. Freshman Huntyr Lake won her first match in consolation play as well, advancing on to play Ogino. Ogino got the better of her Ashland teammate, winning the match 8-3. On the other side of the white consolation bracket, Brooks advanced, only dropping one game along the way, winning her matches 8-0, and 8-1.

In brown bracket consolation play, sophomore Anna Hart advanced to the second round with an 8-2 win.

The duo of Hart and freshman Gabriella Hudec advanced to the finals of the Freddie Falcon consolation bracket in doubles play. They won the first-round match, 6-4 to advance to the semifinals. Hart and Hudec were able to advance through the semifinal before their eventual loss in the championship match of the consolation bracket.

Ashland's women saw success in the Frieda Falcon consolation doubles bracket.

Brooks and freshman Larissa Wieser won their first-round match handedly, 6-0. Sophomore Camille Ringot and Lake moved on as well, winning 6-2. The two doubles pairings had to play each other to decide a champion. Ringot and Lake bested their Eagle teammates, winning 6-2, and claiming the Frieda Falcon consolation bracket championship.

The Eagles will play next on Saturday (Sept. 22) against Michigan Tech on the road.
