AU Women Conclude 2018-19 Play With Win

Ashland University's women's tennis team cruised to a 6-1 win on Tuesday (April 9) in its last match of the year against Ohio Wesleyan.

AU swept doubles matches and won five of six singles matches to account for its six points.

In No. 1 doubles, sophomore Anna Hart and junior Brianna Brdicka won a close 7-6 match that was decided in the tiebreaker. Sophomore Hazuki Ogino and freshman Gabriella Hudec also had to edge out their opponents, a 7-5 decision. The freshman pairing at No. 3 doubles had the quickest win - Larissa Wieser and Nikhol Pluta won 6-2 to round out all doubles victories.

In singles play, the Eagles won matches at No. 2 through No. 6, with Hudec losing a tough three-setter at No. 1.

Sophomore Camille Ringot had a completive 7-5 first set before she won the second, 6-2, to clinch the match. Hart won quickly in a 6-0, 6-2 straight-set victory. Brdicka also won by a wide margin, 6-2, 6-4. Keeping with the theme, junior Allison Brooks played well, winning decisively, 6-2, 6-1. Ogino won her match at No. 6, 6-0, 6-4, as the Eagles secured the win.

Ashland finished the season with an overall record of 8-16, and finished with a 7-4 record at home.
