Ashland University's women's tennis team earned its second shutout win of the season on Tuesday (Sept. 10) evening.
The Eagles toppled Edinboro 7-0 in the one-sided contest.
"The women displayed good focus and discipline against a young Edinboro team," said Ashland head coach Lexi Bolesky. "We are proud of the way we were able to adapt to adversity in singles and doubles."
Ashland came out of the gates hot, winning all three doubles matches. Sophomore Gabriella Hudec and junior Camille Ringot won at No. 1 doubles, 6-2. No. 2 doubles, consisting of freshman Zoe Rosu and junior Hazuki Ogino, also won their match, 6-2. No. 3 doubles won by default.
In singles play, the Eagles swept Edinboro, winning all six matches. Junior Anna Hart had the toughest match of the night at No. 1 singles, going three sets. Hart lost her first set, 3-6, but won the next two, 6-4, 11-9, to take the match.
All other Eagles won in straight sets. Ogino won 6-2, 6-2, at No. 2. Senior Allison Brooks claimed her match in straight sets, 6-1, 6-0, only dropping one game. At No. 4, sophomore Lydia Bice was a winner in a 6-1, 6-2 match. Sophomore Larissa Wieser had a tough two-setter, but came out on top, 7-5, 7-5. No. 6 was won by default.
The Eagles (3-1) are on a roll, and open Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference play next. Ashland's next match will be at Davenport on Saturday (Sept. 14) at 10 a.m.
