AU Women Open GLIAC Play With Win At Davenport

Ashland University's women's tennis team opened Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference play with a 5-2 win over Davenport on Saturday (Sept. 14).

"Today was all about the team, and trusting each other to be their best," said Ashland head coach Lexi Bolesky. "The support from the team was all positive, and they gave their all. We are happy with our performance, and have a goal to continue to be better and improve with each match."

The Eagles (4-1 overall, 1-0 GLIAC) won two of three doubles matches to earn a point, and bested the Panthers in four singles matches.

In doubles play, junior Anna Hart and senior Brianna Brdicka won their No. 1 doubles match, 6-2. Ashland's duo at No. 3 doubles, freshman Zoe Rosu and junior Hazuki Ogino, also rolled to a 6-2 victory.

The Eagles also played well in singles play in their opening GLIAC match. Junior Camille Ringot held her own at No. 4 singles after dropping her first set, 2-6. She battled back to win the next two sets and the match, 6-4, 12-10.  

The rest of the Eagles had straight sets wins in singles play. At No. 3, Rosu won, 7-5, 6-2. Hart cruised to a 6-2, 6-2 win over the Panthers at No. 5 singles. Senior Allison Brooks rounded out the victory for Ashland with a 6-0, 6-1 victory.

Ashland continues its GLIAC weekend road trip on Sunday (Sept. 15) at 1 p.m. at Purdue Northwest.
