Ashland Women Cap Season With GLIAC Championships Win

Ashland University's women's tennis team won its first Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference Championships match since 2012 on Sunday (Oct. 27) morning.

The Eagles beat Purdue Northwest, 4-1, to cap their fall campaign with a big win and finish seventh in the conference.

Ashland was rolling early on, winning two of three doubles matches to take an early lead.

Sophomore Gabriella Hudec and junior Hazuki Ogino won at No. 2 doubles, 6-4. No. 3 doubles was won by default by junior Camille Ringot and senior Allison Brooks.

The Eagles were dominant as they moved into singles play. Hudec won her No. 1 singles match in straight sets, 6-3, 6-1. Brooks also won in straight sets, 6-2, 6-0, and Ogino won by default at the No. 6 slot.

Ashland will resume play in the spring season on Feb. 22 against Tiffin.
