Eagles Complete Weekend Home Sweep, Beat Tiffin, 3-0

ASHLAND, Ohio – The Ashland University is picking up steam as it gets into the meat of its GLIAC schedule. On Saturday (Sept. 25) afternoon, the Eagles won in straight sets over GLIAC South foe, Tiffin, 25-20, 25-20, 25-23 at Kates Gymnasium.

The Eagles (8-4, 4-3 GLIAC) have won three straight matches, sweeping its home stretch in the past four days.

Freshman Kate Eckels (Loveland, Ohio/Mt. Notre Dame) and sophomore Brittany Snider (Olmsted Falls, Ohio) paced the Eagles offensively. Snider had a match-high 20 kills in 52 attacks. She hit .269 for the match and was 13-for-33 with just one error in the first two sets. Meanwhile, Eckels had 10 kills with just two errors in 31 attacks.

Five players had double-figures in digs, led by junior libero Arian Martin (Independence, Ohio), who had 16 digs. Sophomore setter Crystal Elliott (Canal Winchester, Ohio) had a season-high 13 digs and a match-high 38 assists.

The Eagles led for much of the first set, despite the Dragons (7-5, 4-3 GLIAC) hanging around until the latter parts. Ashland never trailed in the second set, but needed a rally in the third set.

The Eagles fell behind 5-1 in the third set, but went on a 12-5 run to take a 13-10 lead. The Dragons scored the next four and eventually took a 17-14 lead. Ashland took its final lead, though, at 19-18, and went on for the 25-23 win.

Ashland hit .258 as a team, while holding the Dragons to just .150.

Lindsay Heller led Tiffin with 25 digs, whil Danielle McQuade and Brooke Bernabei had 10 kills apiece. Jessica Adams had 30 assists.

The Eagles now embark on a five-match road trip that starts on Thursday (Sept. 30) night at 7 p.m. at GLIAC South foe Lake Erie in Painesville, Ohio.
