Volleyball Nabs First Win of Season in Hawaii

ASHLAND, Ohio – When the Ashland University volleyball team set off for Hilo, Hawaii for four matches this weekend, there was no question it would be a business trip.

The Eagles took care of business on Friday (Sept. 3) night against St. Martin's, winning 3-0 (25-16, 25-14, 25-18). It is the Eagles' first win of the season as they split on their first day at the Vulcan Classic – hosted by Hawaii-Hilo.

Sophomore outside hitter Brittany Snider (Olmsted Falls, Ohio) racked up a team-high 12 kills in 29 attempts in the win. Junior outside hitter Anesia Benton (Lima, Ohio/Senior) had nine kills and a .471 hitting percentage. Freshman middle hitter Kate Eckels (Loveland, Ohio/Mt. Notre Dame) also added nine kills.

Sophomore setter Crystal Elliott (Canal Winchester, Ohio) had 27 assists. Eckels had 10 digs and junior defensive specialist Arian Martin (Independence, Ohio) added 11.

The Eagles play two games on Saturday (Sept. 4) against Montana State (4 p.m. EDT) and host Hawaii-Hilo (9 p.m. EDT).
