The fall colors are beginning to come out. One gets the feeling that on Saturday afternoon at Grand Valley State, the Ashland University volleyball team will see nothing but red.

The Eagles dropped a 3-0 decision at Ferris State on Friday (Oct. 5). The setback ended a five-match winning streak for AU. Even with the loss, Ashland has won 10 of its last 12 outings.

This Friday night event pitted two of the GLIAC's top teams. This was the lone regular season matchup between the two. FSU won 25-20, 25-12, 26-24.  Ashland is 13-3 and 6-2 in conference play.  The Bulldogs are 13-3 and 7-1.

Down 2-0, the Eagles gave it their best shot.  At one point, they were in front, 18-13 in the third set. FSU rallied and the set was tied, 19-19. The teams were also deadlocked at 23-23 and 24-24 before the 'Dogs finished off the sweep.

Senior outside hitter Brittany Snider (Olmsted Falls, Ohio) had a match-high 16 kills. She also had eight digs.  Junior outside hitter Marci Zegarac (Lansing, Ill./South) had 11 digs and senior setter Crystal Elliott (Canal Winchester, Ohio/Canal Winchester) contributed 32 assists and three block assists.

Saturday (Oct. 6), the Eagles visit Grand Valley State. This promises to be another difficult assignment as the Lakers are usually included among the GLIAC's top teams.  On Friday, GVSU made quick work of Lake Erie, winning, 3-0. The Lakers are 12-4 overall and 5-3 in the GLIAC. GVSU is 7-1 at home, has won three straight and has won five of is last six matches. The lone loss in that stretch was to Ferris State.
