AU Runs Winning Streak To Seven At ODU

The AU women's volleyball team ran its winning streak to seven matches on Saturday (Nov. 9) at  Ohio Dominican. The Eagles stopped the Panthers, 3-1. Ashland took this match, 25-22, 25-18, 21-25, 25-21.

The victory gives AU an overall mark of 21-6. The Eagles are 13-3 and in first place in the GLIAC South Division. AU has two more regular season matches. Those come next weekend at Wayne State and Findlay.

This was the lone meeting of the year between these teams.

On Saturday, outside hitter Alli Cudworth continued her strong freshman campaign. Cudworth had 22 kills to lead all players in the match.

AU received 12 kills and eight digs from Casey Clark and seven kills and four block assists from Maureen Johnson. Marci Zegarac had 30 digs and Shelly DeHenning had 47 assists and 17 digs. Megan Rohlfs had 11 digs.

Courtney Braun and Brianna Reder had 10 kills apiece for the Panthers (12-16/6-10). Lauren Rindler had 24 digs.

In the first set, AU was ahead, 20-13 before ODU reeled off six consecutive points to make the score 20-19. With the score 23-21, Cudworth put down two kills to secure the win.

AU grabbed an early lead in the second set and maintained control throughout the match. In the third set, the score was tied 19-19 when the Panthers used a pair of Kelsey Barker kills and an AU attack error to go ahead, 22-19. Ashland could never regain the lead.

The fourth set was tied, 17-17 when AU scored five consecutive points for a 23-17 lead.

The Eagles play at Wayne State this coming Friday (Nov. 15, 7 p.m.).
