The Ashland Eagles got back on track Tuesday as they went on the road and rolled over the Lake Erie Storm in three sets, 25-12, 25-14, 25-20. The win marks the second victory of the season for the Eagles, who now sit at 2-7 overall and 2-3 in the GLIAC.
Ashland started off the first set slowly, only holding onto a 10-9 advantage over the Storm. A block by Maureen Johnson and a Storm miscue forced Lake Erie to call a timeout down 12-9. The Eagles then rattled off six kills in a 13-3 run to win the set 25-12.
AU picked up in the second set where they left off in the first. Up 12-10, Ashland went on a 13-4 run in route to a 25-14 win. They collected 14 kills in the set including five from Alli Cudworth.
The Eagles behind 1-0 in the third set marked the only time they trailed in the game. That didn't last long as a Cudworth kill got the game back to even and a Lake Erie attack error put the Eagles ahead for good, up 2-1. Already up 7-5, AU reeled off five kills in a row from the trio of Alli Cudworth, Samantha Zuber, and Casey Clark to extend the lead to 12-5. The Eagles then cruised to the finish where a Maureen Johnson kill capped off the three set sweep.
Ashland had a total of 39 kills and a hitting percentage of .368.
The loss for the Storm drops them to 2-8 overall and 0-5 in the GLIAC.
AU volleyball will return to action on Friday September 26th at Lake Superior State. The start time is scheduled for 7 pm.
