Eagles Lose Two In GLIAC / GLVC Crossover: Day 1

Ashland Volleyball traveled to Aurora, Ill. this weekend to compete in the GLIAC / GLVC Crossover tournament. On the first day of competition AU played both Southern Indiana and Drury University. 

MATCH ONE: 

The Ashland University Eagles dropped their first match of the GLIAC / GLVC Crossover this afternoon (Oct. 17) to Southern Indiana University. 

After losing 3-2, Ashland moved to 5-11 overall on the season. SIU downed AU 27-25, 14-25, 25-20, 24-26, 15-11. 

The Eagles were led by Rylee Scott who recorded a double-double by tallying 17 kills and 16 digs. The sophomore hit .429 in the five set match. Alli Cudworth also notched a double-double. Cudworth had 12 kills and 11 digs, she added two block assists. 

Scott was also impressive on defense for Ashland. She had four block solos and three block assists. Samantha Zuber tallied one block solo and seven block assists. 

Three SIU Eagles had 10 or more kills. They hit .186 from the floor. 

As a unit Ashland logged 52 kills on 165 attempts. AU hit .182, had six service aces, and 16 total blocks. 

 

MATCH TWO: 

In it's second match of the day the Eagles took on the Panthers of Drury University. The Panthera beat the Eagles 3-1 this afternoon at the Great Lakes Center. 

Ashland came out on top in the first set of the match 25-18. Drury went on to win the next three, 25-18, 25-18, 25-16. 

As a whole AU had 39 kills on 145 attacks. Ashland recorded four aces, 61 digs and eight blocks. 

Rylee Scott led AU on offense. Scott was the lone Eagle to tally double-digit kills in the four set contest. Casey Clark added eight kills, 14 dogs and three block assists. Katie Siefert had a team-high 30 assists. 

Ashland is now 5-12 on the season. 

Tomorrow (Oct.18) Ashland looks for its first win of the tournament against the Quincy Hawks at 12:00 PM CT (1:00 PM ET).
