AU Volleyball Falls At Indy To No. 3 Duluth

Ashland University's volleyball team went toe-to-toe with the third-ranked team in Division II on Friday (Sept. 11) night at the University of Indianapolis Tournament, but the Eagles eventually lost to Minnesota Duluth, 3-1 (27-25, 22-25, 25-17, 25-23).

AU led the first set 22-20 before losing to the Bulldogs, but came back in the second set to knot the match at 1. The Eagles trailed in the fourth set, 22-14, then mounted a spirited comeback before eventually falling.

Junior outside hitter Alli Cudworth and junior middle blocker/right-side hitter Rylee Scott each led the AU offense with 14 kills apiece. Defensively, freshman libero Kaitlin Bean (12) and junior outside hitter Casey Clark (10) each had double-digit digs.

Junior setter Mallory Slyder recorded 41 assists, five kills and seven digs.

Earlier on Friday, the Eagles lost 3-0 (25-15, 26-24, 25-17) to 10th-ranked Wheeling Jesuit.

On Saturday (Sept. 12), the Eagles (4-2) will continue play at the U of I Tournament against No. 6-ranked Colorado School of Mines at 1:30 p.m. and the host Greyhounds at 7 p.m.
