Eagles Start Upper Peninsula Trip With Sweep At Tech

It's not easy for any team to go to the Upper Peninsula of Michigan and win.

Ashland University's volleyball team made winning up north look easy, however, on Friday (Sept. 25) night, as the Eagles swept Michigan Tech, 3-0 (25-18, 25-20, 25-23) to start a two-match UP road trip.

The Eagles improve to 7-4 overall and 2-1 in the Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference, while the Huskies fall to 10-2, 2-1.

Friday's first set was the tonesetter, as AU kept Tech to a .111 hitting percentage, and the Eagles had a .235 percentage themselves.

Pacing the Ashland offense with 11 kills each were junior outside hitter Alli Cudworth and senior middle blocker Samantha Zuber. Zuber sported a .370 hitting percentage in the match, and Cudworth added four service aces.

Freshman libero Kaitlin Bean (15) and junior outside hitter Casey Clark (14) each had double-digit digs to lead the Eagle defense. Junior setter Mallory Slyder added 28 assists in the victory.

The Eagles will finish the trip on Saturday (Sept. 26) at 4 p.m. at Northern Michigan.
