Volleyball Loses On Road To Ranked Bulldogs

THE TURNING POINT: Ashland led the first set 17-15, then Ferris State went on a 10-4 run to end the set.

STAT OF THE DAY: Freshman outside hitter Shelby Woycik had 10 kills against the Bulldogs – the fourth time in the last five matches she has had double-digit kills.

Going back on the road to face No. 25-ranked Ferris State on Friday (Oct. 7), Ashland University's volleyball team lost to the Bulldogs, 3-0 (25-21, 25-16, 25-21).

The Eagles are 10-7 overall and 4-4 in the Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference, while FSU is 12-5, 6-1, following its eight consecutive win. Ashland has played 14 of its 17 matches so far in 2016 away from Kates Gymnasium.

Ashland earned a 17-15 lead in the first set, but the Bulldogs scored 10 of the set's final 14 points to go ahead 1-0. In the second set, the Eagles had an 11-10 advantage prior to Ferris State scoring seven straight points en route to a 2-0 advantage.

Freshman outside hitter Shelby Woycik led the Eagles with 10 kills, while senior libero Casey Clark added 12 digs. Sophomore setter Kayla Pfeiffer posted a team-high 15 assists, and sophomore outside hitter/right-side hitter Jordan Mackay added four service aces.

Ashland is 3-2 in three-set matches in 2016.

UP NEXT: Ashland's fifth consecutive road match on Saturday (Oct. 8) at 4 p.m. against Grand Valley State.
